  Independent contracting

   Whilst living in Italy I have been primary developer on a variety of
   projects for a US e-commerce site. Projects include high-performance
   dynamic scaling of images and customisation of clothing and mugs using
   FastCGI, XML, C++ and ImageMagick.

  Survey Engineer, Netcraft

   Netcraft is best known for its comprehensive Internet technology
   tracking surveys, which have been running since 1995. I developed,
   maintained and ran most of these surveys of up to 50 million Web and
   SSL sites and processed over 100 gigabytes of data into reports for
   customers including Microsoft, Sun, BT, C&W, Energis, Rackspace &
   GCHQ. I also handled systems administration and assisted the security
   team with penetration testing.

  Software Developer, Zeus Technology

   Zeus Technology develop award winning high-performance software for
   Web hosting and managing Internet traffic with worldwide customers
   including EBay, BT, C&W, NASA and Biglobe and NTT DoCoMo in Japan.

   I worked in the top class Zeus Web Server v4 development team with a
   key role in the design, implementation and testing of the new
   internationalised user interface for secure administration of large
   numbers of web sites across clustered farms of web servers. Finally, I
   led development on the high-value Mass Hosting Edition product, aimed
   at managing large scale shared hosting environments (1,000-1,000,000
   web sites).
     * Learned and applied rapid development skills to produce high
       quality products on tight schedules.
     * Involvement in the complete product development life-cycle from
       customer requirements gathering, through design, documentation and
       implementation to testing and support.
     * Pre-sales and bespoke work on-site for blue chip clients.

  Head of Operations, Global Communications

   Global Communications is a group of companies including NetBanx, the
   online credit card payment provider, and HostNet, providing web
   hosting facilities.
     * Head of operations, with 3 staff and responsibility for IT for 100
       employees
     * Deployed a £400,000 scalable hosting system in the Telehouse data
       centre including Cisco routers and Arrowpoint (now Cisco) content
       sensitive switches
     * Administered AIX, Solaris and Linux servers
     * Maintained the NetStart shopping cart product
     * Integration of payment facility into sites and e-commerce packages

  University

   My final year project at university was an information retrieval
   system featuring dynamic clustering and refinement of search results,
   implemented in Java.
